Almost everyone's business goes through cycles. It is easy to create an excuse that it is: the "slow" time of year, our inventory is low, the competition slashed their prices,
my territory was just cut, we are understaffed, I can not find enough good people to hire...the list is endless. It is easy to fall into the number one game in America, The
Blame Game.
To quote a friend of mine, the #1 Century 21 Broker in the World, Marty Rodriguez:
"It does not matter what the market is doing, what are YOU doing?" Substitute the following words for the market and you have an equally powerful declaration: your boss, your marketing department, your sales team, and even your kids or your spouse would be appropriate.
It is so easy to place the blame for a current negative situation outside us. When I began selling the Tony Robbins seminars back in 1988, if I failed to make many sales at a
sales presentation I did NOT blame myself. The people in that office were obviously flakes and losers. There is no way it was my lack of conviction, my lack of preparation
and research or my failure to expertly overcome their objections. It couldn't have been me!
The minute I realized IT WAS ME and my shortcomings, my career changed. I made it a study and quit wingin' it. I realized a simple thing I could do was consistently record my presentations and then go back and study what specifically I had to improve. I did this consistently and it worked. I helped create a model others could use too and I went on to become Salesperson of the Year each year I was on the road.
What is your biggest challenge right now - happiness, finances, health, relationship, job, weight, peace of mind? Is there something or someone you are blaming right now for
that situation?
Is it possible it is you?
Just coming to the decision that it is YOU is usually a major breakthrough. Now you can take personal responsibility for the situation. What would be simple to do - a new daily discipline you can commit to - that when repeated each day, will make a measurable difference?
