People are not willing to change; they do not want a new adaptation for it will create uncertainties in their life. They'll rather stay in their comfort zone and be mediocre in life.
The change can only happen when the pain of being the same becomes unbearable. You need to have enough courage to say, "I am fed up with the way I'm living and that's it; I want to change."
No one can make you change; the willingness to change must come from within. Only you can make that change. To make the changes, you need a strong reason for doing so. Maybe you could be searching for ways to end your addictions or poverty. Some are trying to escape the emotional pain or attachments that are causing the sufferings.
First, you need to re-evaluate your life, what do you really want to be or to do with your life? What are your passions? What can really make you happy and that should be the real reason for you to want to take control of your life back.
Put your concentration on what is most meaningful to you first. Be it for yourself or for others and once you discover what you want, it's easier to make decisions that support your intentions for changes because it is from your heart and not from your head.
As you begin your journey to self discovery, life will unfolds itself in a more meaningful and harmonious way, you will be able to achieve clarity in your life. You'll begin to embrace life more gracefully and become more purposeful, creative and mindful of what you are doing.
"We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we make our world" - Buddha
